Alain Beaumin the CEO of STGM, the lift company in Tignes, has come under fire amid criticism that the lift company has not been fulfilling its duties on the Grande Motte.

The complaints are focused on the late opening of the lifts on the first day of the season on the glacier and the two accidents on the Grande Motte that saw the cable derail on the Rosolin lift in June 2012 and October 2013. After the latter incident a fifteen year old girl was airlifted to hospital, although she was quickly discharged, and five other people including Roger Brice, a member of the French Ski Team, were injured in the incident.

Beaumin has retorted saying that the accidents have been caused by the people on the lift not obeying the rules and that there have been 17 million passengers with only these two incidents. He also argued that the safety was not being compromised and that the delay on opening day was due to a problem with a circuit breaker that had been checked the day before and was working fine.

“We do not have to be ashamed of what we do.” he said.

With the lifts opening across the Espace Killy in ten days everyone will be hoping for a trouble free start to the winter and safe and efficient passage on the lifts.
