TiBar Opening Night - Words & pictures by Emily Harding

Last week saw the opening of TiBar, a brand new cozy little bar up in Tignes Val Claret. Located under the hotel Curling and rather conveniently for those wishing to extend their night into the wee hours of the morning, is in prime location directly opposite the Melting Pot.

Serving up free Blue Lagoon cocktails and excellent canapé party food (who doesn’t love big slices of pizza and hearty sausage rolls?!) the opening night was certainly a success. Dutch Courage played a great lively set later on in the evening, setting the standard for what can be expected from this new little haunt.

Open everyday of the week from 3pm - 1am, TiBar is definitely worth a visit, with it’s cozy atmosphere and super friendly staff. A small team of 5, they decorated the bar themselves, using cute tit-bits all totally supplied and donated by local vendors, for instance Black Cats the board shop close by.

You can tell plenty of thought went into what they felt holiday makers and seasonnaires alike would want from a bar and it shows. Twinkly fairy lights, blackboards with inspirational quotes and a snug seating area downstairs all make for a kitsch little bar space. This reporter was particularly impressed with their beautiful cocktail menu, any bar that can offer you a drink entitled “Things that go Piglet in the night” deserves some recognition. Two large TV screens that show live sport are also situated inside, with some Winter X-Games re-runs being played on the opening night, a touch that further shows the thought that has gone into what their clientele will want.

TiBar will have live Djs on a Tuesday night and also live bands on a Wednesday and Thursday during après hours, something which Val Claret has been missing on a regular basis. Putting their energy into entertaining the seasonnaires who have their days off on Wednesday and Thursday is sure to stand them in good stead for the season, as they also offer seasonnaire discount at €5 a pint and €5 for spirits. The après deals that TiBar run are also good, most notably a bottle of wine for €10, something which I feel will be utilised by myself and my friends on a weekly basis!

In the new year TiBar will start serving hot bar snacks with prices between €5 -15 euros and including items such as wedges and calamari. There will also be an outdoor smoking and seating area. For seasonnaires and those on holiday, this bar is worth a visit especially if you’re in need of a good cocktail after a tough day on the hill, for, as the staff there would tell you “A bad day on the piste is still better than a good day in the office.”
