Butta and Bro Apres at Loop

Special Après report - The glorious pop-up shop

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Sophie Offord, Tignes Reporter Updated

One of the great things about living in a ski resort is that from time to time, great bands, people and brands are often touring around the Alps and passing through your town, meaning that you are often exposed to the newest, hottest products before anyone else.

As a holidaymaker it is harder to benefit from these flying visits as you may not find out in time about these sponsored après sessions or parties. For those who were out this week however, this was not the case.

This Wednesday, the Loop Bar played host to a wicked après party hosting the pop up shops of two ever-growing, influential brands from the UK, ‘Butta’ and ‘Bro!’ Loop Bar is a good place to check in with and see which brands or bands they are hosting week to week, for example recently hosting a Grolsch sponsored après party with The Sunset Sons on their stage.

So, on one of the best days of the season so far, the Loop terrace was the perfect place for Butta to set up a free waxing tent and for Bro! to showcase their next seasons range.

Butta are no strangers to Tignes. Having done multiple seasons in Val D’Isere they are heavily involved in the UK ski and snowboarding industry, sponsoring many UK riders. Butta are often seen at events such as The Brits or in this case, they were over for the huge and definitely crazy Frostgun Invitational.  Butta have been on hand here in the Tarentaise all week ensuring that the athletes at Frostgun had freshly waxed skis and boards for the gigantic jump, hip and Street Fighter events.

We caught up with Berns from Butta in his waxing tent at the bottom of the jump at the Ski Big Air in Val D’Isere.  “The jump is absolutely ludicrous!” he told us.  “It’s super fun to watch though, its great to be back in Val d’Isere and Tignes!’”

Butta have recently been to ISPO where they showcased their new Graphite wax and their new line of big riding shirts. Butta pride themselves on being ‘greener’ and more eco friendly than most wax on the market and it smells pretty damn good too! "Here at Butta we have big love for the mountains, with or without that amazing stuff we call snow, we believe that it is of utmost importance that we preserve the mountains all year round. We have been perfecting our recipes for two years in real conditions in various resorts around the world but not forgetting our all important, dry, wet indoor and outdoors slopes in the UK."   As well as their eco, fluro-carbon free biodegradable wax, their workshop also runs on solar power!

Both Jim and Berns were on hand this Wednesday on the Loop terrace providing free ski and snowboard waxes to locals and holidaymakers. With a banging playlist and the pretty satisfying smell of hot wax it made for a pretty good atmosphere for a sunny après session.

Bro! were also hanging out, showcasing some of their new products. If you’re a Tignes local there is no doubt that you would have seen their hats knocking about resort… They are a pretty big deal!  We caught up with brothers JJ and Nick to ask about what they have in store for this season. "We have a variety of the raddest products you ever did see. Most importantly though and the one I’m most stoked on is our new spring shred hoodie aka the High Roller. The beauties are 100% made in the UK, even down to the fabric. That means they are a whole lot lower impact than a lot of the other hoodies out there – the factories are just half an hour away from each other. They’re naturally water-resistant and will be DWR coated and feature a super rad hood that means you don’t need any of this facemask rubbish to keep you cosy!"

Bro! also featured some of their new mitts on their stand that featured some pretty wild patterns. The boys are also hoping to release a collab or two by the time next winter comes around. Keep your eyes out for these boys, there are definitely some more awesome things to come from them.

For seasonnaires and visitors to Tignes alike, it's great to support small British brands when they come to resort. Ask around to find out if there are any special events going on at your local bar and make sure you head down to sample their products, services and find out more about these up and coming brands.

All in all a pretty epic après session was had. A huge thanks to Butta and Bro! for providing free wax, some pretty nifty products and as always a huge thanks to Loop for providing the beverages and awesome après atmosphere.
