I’m in Tignes this week for the Delancey British Alpine Championships!

The races started on Monday and will be running until Sunday. I have already competed in the Super G and Downhill so now its time for the tech events, giant slalom and slalom

The Super G was due to run on Sunday however the weather really clouded in and it snowed hard on Saturday night and Sunday morning therefore they were postponed until Monday. However they made the right decision by postponing the races as Monday was a bluebird day! There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the sun was shining. There were two races on the program, the National Championship and the National Junior Championship. Unfortunately the races didn’t go totally to plan for me as I finished second Brit in both races and didn’t score any points. I couldn’t really work out why I didn’t ski as fast as I thought I had but I know there are still a lot of things I need to work on in Super G and so I tried not to be too upset with a second place!

Next up was the Downhill and I was ready to redeem myself. Due to weather conditions on Wednesday they decided to run a training run and the two race runs all on the same day. I felt ready for the downhill after having forerun the World Cup Finals last week. I wasn’t scared at the start at all which meant that I could really go for it from the first training run. The weather wasn’t as warm as the previous day which meant the snow stayed harder which I preferred. I had a good training run finishing in third place overall. I was feeling confident for the race as there were a few areas that I made mistakes in that I knew I could do better. I had a good first run, taking just a little bit too much direction off one of the jumps but finishing in third place overall and first Brit! It felt good to be back on the top step of the podium again. I still had one more run though so I wanted to make it even better. I finished in third place again, missing out on first place by three tenths of a second, and top spot on the British podium too! Unfortunately I didn’t score any points but I was still happy with my skiing. The course was nice to ski even though I definitely prefer the Meribel Downhill. There was just one jump on the top which wasn’t very fun because you landed on the flat and it sent shudders all the way up your legs and back!

Tomorrow is the start of the tech events and I don’t know if it’s slalom or giant slalom up first yet. Hopefully I can stay at the top of the podium for the rest of the week too!

Also in Tignes this week are the Brits Freestyle Championships and BUSC (British University Ski Championships) that start on Sunday. There is a lot going on to watch and the snow is still awesome for skiing!
