Tignes Apres Ski Report: 3rd April 2013

Getting Closer...

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Toby Leadbetter, Tignes Reporter Updated

As the hype from the X-Games slowly died down this week, Tignes was again swamped with visitors gathering in the resort for The Brits. This is a competition for UK riders competing in different age group competitions. They were using the X-Games super pipe but occupied the Tignes park for the week, much to my disgust! For me having them here was more annoying than anything, as their riding was nothing on the athletes from the week earlier. However with The Brits comes parties, which to my delight was better than the previous week!

On Thursday Night, my mates from London, The Nextmen, ventured back to the Alps to mix their magic, 3400m up at the Grand Motte restaurant. The resort opened the funicular up for the event, which kicked off at 9pm. I have already talked about these guys in a previous week, bit I can't stress enough how good they are. I have been lucky enough to see them 6 or 7 times now and they never disappoint. Always dropping new mixes but never forgetting their hip hop roots. This was a special event for a lot of people working for the competition, however there were some ticket sales for the public. It was definitely the highest party I had ever attended and the multiple seal clubbing on the D-floor made for a fantastic night. With the season coming to a close it was a great chance to see Tignes at night from such a height. It was an event to remember and just stoked to see my boys The Nextmen again.

Lavachet got amongst the Brits celebrations with SoBar throwing a party to celebrate JP's heritage. Earlier in the week the BBC had been to SoBar to film an article on "young holidaymakers trips to the alps". It must have got some viewing, as the turn out to the Brits party was fantastic. Everyone got amongst it and dressed up for the occasion, which turned out to be another great night in the Lavachet local. It's always a great chance to catch up with your neighbours which so often is a long time between drinks. SoBar has definitely made a name for itself this season as you would have realised from my stories, with it's original and fun ideas for parties. It's worth a trip for sure, and I apologise in advance if you're just stuck with JP and his dartboard.

On Monday night, after an amazing day's riding of new peaks and new tricks landed, we decided to celebrate with the usual cask of wine and stellas. It must have been the day in the sun and all the hiking as the alcohol went quickly to my head. After the rounds of the usual drinking games we decided to head to the Underground Bar in Le Lac. We must of gone on their busiest night of the year as it was place was choca. The night itself is a little hazy, but the bank account suggests it was a good night. The DJ was playing great beats and I was definitely amongst the d-floor - which for me means a good night. It was a good change of scene and would recommend a visit.

The end if this week hopefully means the end of the crowds. With no more major events left in the season we can now sit back and enjoy the last weeks. We had daylight savings this week, which is great for the après conditions, and the BBQ is back out.

Enjoy the sunshine and the longer day light hours.
