BBQ's, Birthdays and Beers

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Toby Leadbetter, Tignes Reporter Updated

The snow storm finally cleared late last week after three crazy weeks of constant fat snow flakes in Tignes. That made for a couple of special blue bird - knee deep days with the mountain covered in smiles from the Grand Motte tothe Solaise. However with it now being the French half term holidays at the moment, the mountain on piste is a crowded affair so heading over to some secret spots is a must over the next couple of weeks. With the sun out, the kiwis thought it was time to dig out the BBQ, soak up the rays and get some Après wets in us.

On Friday night after a day of shredding secret stash spots and an afternoon of eating bangers, steaks and drinking crisp Heiny's we decided to head along to TC's bar in Le Lavachet to listen to some local budding comedians on their annual comedy night. TC's is found in Le Lavachet, above the Sherpa supermarket and just next to SoBar. It’s not the biggest bar around, but has it's fair share of history. It has been around for the best part of a decade and has a very loyal bunch of locals. The bar was packed for the event with patrons spilling out onto the walkway outside. There were a handful of performers ranging from Dangerous Dave and his half hour story to Wogga's 2min hand gestures performance. The crowd was well on their way by the end of the night with a certain Helen stealing the show with her Trade Mark udder's show for the people that stayed to the end. It was a great day and night filled with laughs and a lot of booze. TC's has nights like this every now and then so will try get a bit more warning for their next night.

On Monday night we had a birthday to celebrate. The brothers that own Jacks Club in Le Lac were turning 30. Word got out throughout the day, with most the seasonaires licking their lips at the thought of some complimentary drinks. After a heavy pre drinks at our flat we headed down to find a pumping club filled with people in the mood for a celebration. The DJ was dropping some favorites of mine and mixing the genres up nicely! The D-Floor was in full swing, with motorbikes being blown up in reaction to the seals, and a small name kiwi that goes by P-D got the crowd cheering with his attempt at a windmill. Unfortunately there weren’t any free drinks for myself but it didn't stop me having a great time. All in all the night was a success and I'm sure the Jack brothers would have been nursing some hangovers like us on Tuesday.

The body took a bit of a hiding this week with the Denton brothers arriving, however the times shared were worth the pain. It doesn't look like it will ease up anytime soon with the sun out in full force and the Sherpa still stocking beers. Hopefully the kids disappear next week and we can again have the slopes to ourselves.
