Councillors and transport professionals have met up to discuss ways in which the train, bus and taxi station at Bourg St Maurice can be improved upon. Lead by councillor Catherine Defourny, the committe wants to look at how the image for visitors can be improved when passing through the station. Of course, many British tourists also pass through the station having used the overnight sleeper or Eurostar direct services to Bourg. read more...

For those of you who can't wait until next winter the Grande Motte glacier opens today until 31st August for summer skiing. The ski area can be reached in just seven minutes from Val Claret via the Perce Neige funicular and the lifts will be open from 7.15am to 1pm daily. The summer ski area contains 20km of piste and a snowpark with 750m of vertical served by 12 ski lifts. New this year is a boardercross course and mini slalom and beginner lessons and training camps are available in the terrain park. read more...

After having welcomed the French national football team before they set off on their (somewhat short lived) Euro 2008 campaign, Tignes will be once again be hosting the European Beach Soccer Championships from the 4th to the 6th July.Tignes le Lac will also welcome, as it has done for several years, the Olympique Lyonnais footy team for a spot of pre-season high altitude training, from 2nd to the 12th July (believe us, it's quite amusing to watch overpaid footballers struggling to ride a bike at 2000m altitude!). read more...

As of the 1st July 2008, it will become law in France that motorised vehicles must carry a warning triangle and a high-visibility security vest - and yes, that techincally includes holidaymakers who drive themselves from the UK to Chamonix for a ski holiday for example. read more...

The developer MGM has started work this week on a new four star residence in Tignes le Lac. Called 'Le Telemark' the development covers 5127sq metres and will offer 55 apartments, from studios to luxurious five-roomed duplex pads. Verbier local and British freeskier Warren Smith has been set a new challenge – this time on wheels rather than skis! Last winter Lawrence Dallaglio, the former England rugby international and Wasps captain, took to the slopes of Verbier for 3 days of ski coaching with Warren, culminating in tackling the 35% descent of Mont Fort. Whilst chatting on a chairlift Lawrence invited Warren to take part in a charity bike ride with him and a few other sportsmen; possibly before realising the extent of the challenge Warren happily agreed. Now Warren is in training for a 933km tour across the French Pyrenees! read more...
