Tignes Snow Report: 10th October 2014

1st week of the glacier being open & lots of race teams have been up practising

featured in Snow report Author Ellie Mahoney, Tignes Editor Updated

After a relatively mild winter last year we're pleased to see that the snow conditions on the Tignes (Grande Motte) glacier, which opened last Saturday 4th October, are actually not that bad.

This week there have been lots of race teams training ahead of a competition in Solden in the Tyrol on 26th October, and as a result there seems to have been more people in lycra and race helmets than anyone else up there!

In places the snow is a little icy and the lower parts are very thin in snow cover, as you can see from the webcam.

It looks like more snow is forecast at 3,400 m overnight tonight into tomorrow, so there could be around another 8-10cm with more flurries into the early part of next week.

The glacier is open all the way through now until 10th May 2015, so if you're itching to get back on your skis or your snowboard ahead of the season then now's the time while it's still quiet!

Our snow & apres reporters will be back this winter, so keep an eye on our news page where we'll be introducing them very shortly! :-) #winteriscoming
