After an amazing spring, 14 degree blue bird yesterday we have been snowed in again. It started around 9am this morning and just got heavier and heavier!! Already a good 20cm has dropped and it doesn't look to be stopping anytime soon. I am nannying today so will be resting up in the hot tub for what should be an epic day tomorrow. The tree runs in the Espace Killy would be the way to go today if you dare to venture out and get amongst the White out. With the snow being so heavy, and with it also forecasted to clear tomorrow at some point, mapping out your chosen peaks is after dinner activities tonight. Avalanche gear will be essential and you will have to have your wits about you. This spring weather is proving to be very unpredictable so take care and enjoy the Easter powder!
Snowed In: 19th March 2013

We have been snowed in! It has been snowing big fat flakes now for over 24 hours and it does not look like it is going to stop anytime soon. By 17:00 yesterday there was a good 25cm in Tignes Le Lac which made the snow boots essential. The wind is the only worrying factor as at times it is reaching gale force out there. The tree runs were the go-to today with the snow being so heavy. It is forecast to clear today at some point so last night's after dinner activity involved mapping out today's chosen peaks. Avalanche safety gear (transceiver, shovel, probe, knowledge and experience) will be essential if you're out on the mountain today and make sure you have your wits about you. Take care out there and enjoy the mid march pow.
Mid March Dump : 14th March 2013

The weather in March has been like a dollar mixture of lollies from back home - you never quite know what you're going to get. Yesterday was a 14 degrees, bluebird day. This morning 10cm of fresh snow and it's still falling. The visibility is poor but all the tree runs in the Espace Killy would be a safe bet for some clearer, safer lines. If you do go chasing fresh turns please go with others, take the right avalanche safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe), check the snow pack, and know what you're doing. Tomorrow will be the day, enjoy this Mid March Dump.
Fat Wet Flakes : 8th March 2013

As if the last few weeks were the calm before the storm, I finally awoke this morning to fat, wet snowflakes that were thankfully settling on the ground. It has continued to snow throughout the day and now have a 10cm layer around my house at 2,200m. The snow is very wet and isn’t the dry stuff that we have been use to throughout the season but beggars cant be choosers when the season changes to spring. I headed out and enjoyed some fresh turns this morning, but with it forecast to snow until Saturday night, Sunday will be the best bet of the weekend. Lets hope it gets a bit colder over night and the snow keeps falling.
Another Solid Dump: 15th February 2013

The crazy start to February continues in the Espace Killy with yet another solid dumping of snow overnight. Tignes Lavachet was covered in 20cm this morning when I woke up and its still coming down with big solid flakes. It’s very low light at the moment but the trees have my name written all over them. The photo is from multiple pockets I found yesterday and is where I will be heading back to after my toast and coffee this morning. With transfer day being tomorrow, the seaonaires will be licking their lips at the prospect of an empty resort with at least 30-40cm fresh up top. Get ready for a blinder tomorrow or a few tree runs today.
