Our pick of the top ski and music festivals in the Alps this season

You quite often have to wait until the longer, sunnier days of Spring to get a choice of music festivals to go to, but there are usually a few early birds to kick off festival season.

The Rock on Snowboard Tour starts off in Val Thorens on 29th & 30th November and then heads to Avoriaz in December where you'll find Shaun White's Band 'Bad Things' playing on the 13th and it's all free!

Another early season one to watch out for is the Rise Festival in Les 2 Alpes, which takes place from 13th to 20th December. Expect week long parties and events on and off the mountain with a line up of International DJ's and bands.

Head to La Plagne in January for the Mix Mountain Festival, which takes place from 26th to 30th in Montalbert. Events start around lunch times mixing up competitions on the piste with gigs and parties taking place at night.

In Alpe d'Huez the Snowboxx Festival will be setting up camp from 21st to 28th March, turning the resort into 4 distinct themed areas and joining forces with the Folie Douce to crank up the entertainment levels.

Rock the Pistes is back at various locations in the Portes du Soleil from 14th to 21st March. This years line up hasn't been announced yet but you can expect big names from the UK & International circuit. Gigs will be taking place in Avoriaz, Morgins, St Jean d'Aulps, Montriond & Morzine. The price is included in your lift pass.

The BRITS is back in Tignes again from 21st to 28th March, this festival is more about freestyle & slopestyle than music, but it always attracts a great crowd and Tignes' legendary apres scene and parties make for a great atmosphere.

In Val Thorens you'll find the Festi Val Tho which takes place from 24th to 26th March and brings together some of the best Electro, House, Techno and Trance DJ's from around the world, and the best thing is it's totally free!

Chamonix's Black Weekend takes place from 3rd to 6th April 2015 and mixes music and events on the mountain with DJ's and parties down in town. This year's line up is still to be announced.

Snowbombing has become known as one of the biggest British music festivals in the Alps, with 1000's of Brits heading to Mayrhofen each April to party hard. This years event takes place from 6th to 11th April and you'll find Rudimental, Basment Jaxx & Fatboy Slim on the line up so far.

Zermatt Unplugged always has a diverse line up, and it's a great way to wind down the season with a more laid back vibe, either with gigs on the mountain or in the main arenas. We saw Morcheeba and Skunk Anansie there a few seasons ago, and they've also had Stevie Wonder, Alanis Morissette and lots of other big names all playing acoustic sets. Big names bring big price tags too though so expect an expensive night/s out. This years event will take place from 14th -18th April 2015.

What's your favourite and where are you going to make a b-line for this season??
