Tignes and the STGM (Society of the Grande Motte cable) lift company have become the first ski resort in the world to be accredited By Green Globe for their efforts in sustainable tourism, environmental awareness and local employment.

The station is one of 450 tourism companies to be awarded this certification worldwide, but it is the only ski resort on the list. It has been recognised for taking various environmental measures such as re-grassing the pistes each spring to integrate them into the landscape once the winter is over, removing 100 pylons from the slopes since 2008, stabilising the snow pack, restoring biodiversity and creating an environmental observatory where they can evaluate and anticipate the impact of any building projects and also monitor wildlife in the area.

Off the slopes, STGM regularly renews its fleet of buses to encourage visitors to leave their cars in the car park and the resort follows a policy of hiring staff and purchasing products locally, which promotes economy and employment in the region.
