Thankfully the man was rescued unharmed

Yesterday afternoon a French soldier was skiing in an off-piste area of the Palet when he was swept away by an avalanche.

A friend that was skiing with him raised the alarm to call for help. He was found in the Couloir du lac du Chardonnet buried in snow after around 15 minutes, with the assistance of avalanche dogs.

He was apparently not equipped with a transceiver, or if he was, it was not switched on.

The man was taken by helicopter to Bourg St Maurice hospital to be checked over, but reports suggest he was unharmed.
