News is coming to light today of two separate avalanches yesterday in Val d'Isere which claimed the lives of 2 people and seriously injured a third.

Local newspaper Le Dauphine reports that in two separate incidents, both in the Bellevarde sector of resort, two skiers died after being buried under around 1.5 metres of snow.

Rescue teams with avalanche rescue dogs were quickly on the scene at both sites but were sadly unable to revive the two people. 1 person was seriously injured, whilst other skiers in the party were rescued unharmed but shocked by what happened.

The avalanche risk level was very high yesterday at 4/5, and remains significantly high at 3/5 today. Apparently rescue teams responded to reports of 8 separate avalanches in the area in the same day, but no other people were involved.

Our thoughts are with the family & friends of those affected by these tragic events.
