Val d'Isere, France - French organizers of the 2009 alpine ski world championships in Val d'Isere are making progress after some earlier hiccups, the ruling body FIS said on Wednesday. The FIS had voiced concern over the state of piste preparations earlier this year, which prompted the resignation of organizing committee chief Jean-Claude Killy.

Race directors Atle Skaardal, Jan Tischhauser and Helmut Schmalzl visit the host resort last week and were quoted by FIS as saying that the organizers were on schedule again. "Huge improvements have been implemented for the safety installations to remedy the problems revealed by the first test events last season. The snow-making system has also been improved," said the women's race director Skaardal. "Everything is progressing as planned and it seems that the main ladies' test events scheduled for December can be held as per our calendar, which is crucial for the championships."

Schmalzl said on behalf of the men's directors: "There is still some more to do especially on the men's downhill course but the team is on plan." Men's test races are set for February 2008.
