Storm warnings across French Alps

Eastern France to be hit by electrical storms

featured in News & reviews Author Alison Shayler, Tignes Reporter Updated

Meteo France has issued an orange alert (we think this may be bad but not quite as bad as a red alert, although we’re not sure...) due to incoming violent storms across the east of France.

They have warned that the regions of Ain, Ardeche, Drome, Isere, Rhone and the Loire will be hit by strong winds, electrical storms and lots of rain.

Now, we are warning you of this somewhat hesitantly as the last time this happened we more-or-less advised that you hide in the cellar, only for the promised storm to be no more than a bit of drizzle. However, we have done our duty and you can’t say that you haven’t been warned.

The storm is expected around midday but could arrive as fashionably late as 6am tomorrow morning. Weather experts advise that you should avoid travelling and using electrical items. This year’s North Face Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc has been postponed by a few hours to avoid the worst of it, you can find race updates on their news page or on Facebook.

Keep an eye on Meteo France for further updates.
