Skier at fault for Tignes skilift derailing

Improper use of skilift injured 12 skiers
by Robin Deering | Tignes Editor | published: 6th Jul, 2012

The teleski du Rosolin drag lift is now back in action, a week after the skilift derailed and injured twelve skiers in Tignes. Following an official investigation it has been concluded that a misbehaving skier was at fault.

After inspection by the Bureaux de contrôle des Remontées mécaniques, it appears that the inappropriate behavior of a skier is behind the incident. "The marks on the ski lift during the inspection indicate that the cable derailed at the upper station due to improper release of the lift by the skier at the time of his arrival".

The skier was spotted carving on the way up the lift, which would have lead to a stretched coil and an improper position of the cable when he released the drag lift at the top.

The ski lift compnay (STGM) went through thorough maintenance checks and has been tested prior to opening again to the public.

The STGM have distributed safety notices in resort to remind skiers of proper conduct when on a drag lift.
