Tignes and Val d'Isere Cut Off By Avalanche

Access to both Tignes and Val d'Isere was blocked yesterday evening following an avalanche in the area. Whilst there were no casualties involved, the slide came right across the main road, preventing access to both resorts for several hours.

On Saturday evening a local man lost his life in an apparent suicide in Tignes. The 21 year old from Bourg St Maurice is reported to parked his car in Tignes 1800 before intentionally throwing himself from the 180m high dam at around 20:00.

With the success of artificial snow in Tignes, providing better skiing conditions when snow is a bit scarce - the resort of Tignes are testing solar canons to improve skiing conditions when sunlight is bit scarce, effectively eliminating flat light.
