Tignes Activities - Indoor / Bad Weather

Indoor / Bad Weather Activities in Tignes

If you are unlucky enough to find yourself in Tignes when the rain is pouring and the wind is howling, or if you simply want to have a day off all of those extreme sports you've put your body through, there's no shortage of things for you to do. Whether you fancy some pampering at a spa, want to catch a movie at the cinema, or take the kids to the sports centre; here's a few suggestions to keep you entertained during your stay in Tignes.

Arcades & 10 Pin Bowling
Arcades & 10 Pin Bowling

Tignes le Lac has Europe's highest bowling alley at 2100m - so you can always blame your score on the altitude! It offers 10 lanes, a range of arcade games and often hosts theme nights such as 'disco bowling'. Bizarrely, the bowling alley also houses a nightclub called Jack's where you can dance the night away to a cheesy selection of English and French pop music.

The bowling alley is open from midday to 2am and Jack's is open from 11pm until 4am.

Grotte de Glace (Ice Caves)
Grotte de Glace (Ice Caves)

Deep in the heart of the Grande Motte glacier, at 3500m of altitude, an ice marvel has been created.  The Tignes ice caves are a magical grotto of glistening sculptures and fairytale figures. 200 meters of passageway have been dug out of the Grande Motte glacier and each winter expert ice sculptors arrive to create a new exhibition based on a different theme such as dragons, crystals, animals and so on.

At 3000m the caves are accessible in both summer and winter via the Téléphérique de la Grande Motte or the funicular (underground train); entry costs just €4 plus your lift pass. Remember to wrap up warm, even if it is sunny outside!

Swimming
Le Lagon
Le Lagon

One of Tignes latest and best additions is ‘Le Lagon’ (The Lagoon), the € 14.9 million, 5000m2 sport and wellness centre. The complex includes 3 pools; a 25 m swimming pool, a play pool with 3 track multi lane water slide, a leisure pool, geyser, bubble bed, whirlpool seat and a waterfall, and a paddling pool with mini slide, mini whirlpool bath and mushroom fountains for the toddlers.

The complex also boasts a fully equipped gymnasium with state of the art machines for weight training, cardio and stretching, a dance room and spinning hall. As well as all that there is also the ever favourite spa section with Jacuzzis, steam rooms (hammam) and saunas amongst other things.

The incredible design and location of this development means that you can gaze out over the Tignes lake when on a rowing machine, enjoy the warm and soothing bubbles of the Jacuzzi whilst watching the snow on the glacier and fix your eyes on the sky whilst swimming.

A day’s ski / lift pass during the summer will get you free access to the swimming pool section of the complex for that day, but a global pass that entitles you to all of the above is just €18 a day for and adult. There are various different pass combination available, from day passes to week and even season passes, and of course special prices for children aged 5-12. Under fives go FREE!

There is also a swimming pool at Les Bains du Montana, a complex which also houses a jacuzzi, sauna and Turkish bath. Treatments on offer include massages, facials, endermologie and beauty packages.

If you're willing to brave the cold you can go for a dip in the lake, where there is also a range of watersports on offer throughout the summer months!
